PREVENTATIVE DENTAL CARE

We believe that preventative care and education are the keys to optimal dental health. That’s why we focus on our exams – checking the overall health of your teeth and gums, performing oral cancer exams, and taking x-rays when necessary. We know that regular cleanings, flossing, and fluoride are all helpful in preventing dental disease. While we strive to improve the beauty of your smile, our primary focus is on your health. We are always proactive because oral health can affect the entire body. We will find any potential problems early and work on making changes that will prevent more serious systemic issues in the future.

COMPREHENSIVE DENTAL CARE

At Wildwood, we offer comprehensive dentistry including: exams, intraoral and extraoral photography, low radiation digital radiographs, tooth extraction, root canal therapy, sports guards, bridges, whitening, porcelain crowns, children's dentistry, composite (tooth-coloured) filings, laser treatment, bruxism splints, snore appliances, hygiene (professional cleanings) and periodontal gum therapy.

Neuromuscular dentistry is an approach to dental treatment that focuses on the correction of jaw misalignment. We determine the optimal position of the jaw in order to correct misalignment and adjust how the upper and lower teeth come together. By realigning the jaw joint through the use of cosmetic dental restorations, tooth recontouring or orthodontics, we can alleviate stress from the jaw muscles and eliminate painful symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ or TMD).

Neuromuscular dentistry can also offer long term relief of migraines, neck pain and headaches without drugs or surgery, by placing the facial and chewing muscles in a relaxed, “neuromuscular” balance. Our patients have experienced significant reduction of pain and migraine symptoms when we are able to ensure their jaw stays relaxed, particularly at night.

EXAMS

EXAMS

More than just a “checkup”, we evaluate your jaw muscles, jaw joint (TMJ), occlusion (or “bite”) and how they can lead to future tooth wear/pain. We do an oral cancer screening at every exam, and closely examine your gums for gum disease, inflammation and bone loss. We examine each and every tooth for cracks, decay, broken fillings, and discolouration, and use a couple of different cameras so that we can show you on a computer monitor what your teeth look like up close!

WHITENING

WHITENING

If you're looking for a brighter smile, we offer take-home whitening kits and in-office one visit procedure! The take-home kit includes custom fit trays that hold a whitening gel against your teeth at home when it suits your schedule.

The in-office procedure brings you a brighter and whiter smile within an hour while you sit back and watch TV.

TOOTH EXTRACTION

TOOTH EXTRACTION

When a tooth declines to the point that we can’t save it, we may recommend that it be removed so that it does not cause further pain or damage to adjacent teeth. We strive to make our extractions as quick and low-stress as possible. You’ll have the option of grafting the extraction site if you wish to replace the tooth with an implant in the future.

SPORTS GUARDS

SPORTS GUARDS

These are a MUST for you hockey/football/rugby players, as well as MMA/boxers. Not only can they help reduce concussive effects, but wearing one can help save you from months of costly treatment to fix a blow to your teeth.

ROOT CANAL THERAPY

ROOT CANAL THERAPY

Sometimes teeth with deep decay, large cracks, or abscesses end up needing root canal therapy in order to get you feeling comfortable. By removing the infected, inflamed, and painful internal nerve and replacing it with a filling material, we can get you out of pain while still saving your tooth.

HYGIENE

HYGIENE

There is emerging evidence supporting the correlation between oral disease and systemic health such as cardiovascular disease, arthritis and diabetes. At Wildwood Dental, we provide thorough dental hygiene therapy in order to prevent and treat disease. We encourage communication and education in order for our patients to have a full understanding of their oral status and work with patients to provide the regularly scheduled care needed to reach optimal health.

LASER TREATMENT

LASER TREATMENT

Numerous studies have shown that low-level laser therapy can reduce the number of harmful bacteria in and around your gums, so we aim to utilize this treatment at your hygiene appointments.

Lasers can also be used to perform various minor gum surgeries needed to optimize outcomes of fillings and crowns, or to improve the appearance of overgrown gym around the front teeth. This alternative offers much better visualization during the procedure for the clinician and greatly reduces the amount of post-operative pain and swelling for the patient as well.

BRIDGES

BRIDGES

A bridge helps replace a missing tooth. The two teeth on either side of the missing-tooth-gap have a thin layer of tooth structure removed just like with a crown, and then a porcelain bridge consisting of “two crowns connected by an artificial tooth” is made to fill the gap.

2

PORCELAIN CROWNS

PORCELAIN CROWNS

If a tooth has a large cavity or old filling, or has a large crack/fracture, we may recommend a crown. A porcelain crown is a durable restoration that covers the biting surface of the tooth and wraps around it 360 degrees in order to seal the tooth and hold it together to prevent it from breaking down more. Crowns are also usually needed after a root canal on a back tooth to prevent future leakage, re-infection, or irreparable tooth fracture.

INTRAORAL & EXTRAORAL PHOTOGRAPHY

INTRAORAL & EXTRAORAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Ever tried to look at your top back molar in a mirror? It’s almost impossible. Using a combination of up close intraoral cameras and outside-the-mouth DSLR cameras, we can show you exactly what we see with your teeth and gums, and help you understand what we’re talking about. Taking photos of your teeth also helps when communicating with your insurance company, as well as with the laboratory that is making your custom-shaded crown, bridge, or veneer.

CHILDREN'S DENTISTRY

CHILDREN'S DENTISTRY

From “happy visits” for your inquisitive little one, to routine exams, cleaning, and filling appointments for your older ones, we’re happy to see your kids here at Wildwood Dental. We follow the Canadian Dental Association’s guideline by recommending the dental assessment of an infant within 6 months of the eruption of the first tooth or by one year of age.

LOW RADIATION DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHS (X-RAYS)

LOW RADIATION DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHS (X-RAYS)

Having annual digital radiographs allows us to zoom in order to be better able to spot any signs of decay, infection, or bone loss/gum disease early, when it is easier, faster, and cheaper to fix a potential problem!

headchace

BRUXISM SPLINTS

BRUXISM SPLINTS

When we clench our jaws together during the day or grind them overnight, we expose our teeth, gum, muscles of the face and jaw joints to an incredible amount of stress. This can lead to significant wearing of our teeth, recession of the gums leading to sensitivity, headaches and jaw pain. We offer custom made appliances which help stabilize your jaw and minimize further discomfort and damage.

SNORE APPLIANCES

SNORE APPLIANCES

Is your snoring keeping your loved ones from sleeping? Do you feel tired in the morning despite going to bed at regular hours? Are you prone to falling asleep while watching TV, reading, or sometimes even at a traffic red light? We may have a solution for you to get more out of your sleep and be rested and ready to take on the day; talk to us to find out more.

OUR CLINIC

WE ARE COMMITTED TO MAKING SURE YOU ARE COMFORTABLE DURING YOUR DENTAL VISIT

We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful clinic!  Enjoy a beverage while you wait for your kids to finish up their appointments at our coffee bar.  The kids can also busy themselves at our video station when it's your turn to see the dentist.  Our treatment rooms are equipped with multiple TV screens and individual x-ray arms; so you can watch a movie, see pictures of that hard to reach upper back tooth and get your x-ray taken all at the same time.  Our sterilization area is built to follow Alberta's infection control guidelines, which are some of the strictest in the country.   We are committed to making sure you are comfortable during your dental visits, and our facilities help us ensure we can provide you the quality care you expect.
